How Old Is Your Mother?

“How old are you?”, someone asked.

“Thirty one”, I replied.

“And how old is your mother?”, that person asked again.

“Thirty one”, I replied.

“That’s impossible”, that person argued.

“No, it is true. Let me explain. I am the eldest kid in family. The day I was born, was also the first day for her as a mother. Earlier, she was a sister, a wife. But not a mother. Now, I am thirty one. And she, as a mother, is also thirty one. She can be older as a person, but not as a mother. Society doesn’t look at it this way. But it should. People should understand that being a mother is not easy. They assume that once you’re a mother, everything would be done magically. But that assumption is wrong. The moment a woman has a kid, she becomes a mother. And her world shifts from herself to that kid. But it doesn’t mean that she is already experienced at this new role. She figures out on the way. And still she manages to do such an amazing job. But as I told earlier, a mother is as old as her first kid. Period.”
