The other day when I was visiting Berlin Wall, I went inside a souvenir shop located somewhere at halfway of the wall. A kid (5–6 years old) accompanied by his mother, bought some items from the shop and went to the billing counter. An old lady was managing this shop. When they asked, “how much they had to pay?”. The old lady calculated and replied “it’s 9.5 Euros in total”. The kid gently took out money-pouch from his pocket using his little fingers. The lady asked him “is it your money?”. The kid looked at her, smiled and replied, “yes, I saved it”. The lady said, “in that case, you give me just 5 Euros”. The kid looked at his mother for some hint, she told him to pay full amount. He paid full amount. The old lady took the money from him, separated 4 Euros 50 cents from it and gently put it back in kid’s money-pouch. She smiled and whispered to him, “it’s your money, keep it”.
It was a heart-touching moment. The kid may or may not understand its importance today, but he will surely appreciate it when he will grow up in such a world. His mother asked him to thank that lady again and they left..
I was feeling so happy being witness to this whole incident. People with such small but sweet gestures are definitely foundation of a better world.
